  1. In this video, I learned that the second Barbary war lasted only about two weeks. The algeers signed a treaty on an american ship in 1815, this ended the pirate problem for good! That sparked the Era of Good Feelings. The American System was created to endorse the National Bank and made protective tariffs and internal improvements, such as roads and canals.

    1. If I remember right, roads and canals was a question on the pre-test we took at the beginning of this quarter. The roads, although, were opposed by some of the colonists because they considered it to interfere with their land and or development.

  2. I also learned that Madison let the first National Bank's charter to expire. Then he refused to sign a bill that would open it again. But, after a while, he started to see the need for the Bank, and he signed the bill to have a Second National Bank made.

  3. After the conflicts with the Barbary Wars, they finally negotiated a treaty and it sparked the Era of Good Feeling. James Madison also developed the 2nd national bank, although he was against what Hamilton was saying. He just revised it a little fitting for more constitutional. They also continued to have arguments with the Indians and they eventually made them push father West.

  4. Although the Americans endured total naval blockade and heavy losses during the war, they still felt that they had won after Jackson's army defeated the British at their failed invasion of Baltimore. (Little did they know the treaty of ghent had already been signed) Effects of the War & Post-War on America included the abolishment of the federalist party, a 2nd war with the Barbary pirates( We totally overwhelmed them, seized every ship we encountered, and demanded all people of American origin being held ransom be released), and the establishment of a 2nd national bank (Madison believed the 1st bank was unconstitutional and let the 20 year charter for the bank expire, but soon found it was hard to finance the war without a national bank stabilizing American economy.) Clay's American system provided an outline for a protective tariff that encouraged purchasing domestic goods and was good for 3 years, and also provided for internal improvements including the establishment of roads and canals.

  5. Was the establishment of roads truly a massive overreach of power? Where would America be without Clay's internal improvements?

    4. They took to much power away from the people I believe and it was forcing conflicts all over the US. Without Clay's internal improvements we would probably be the same as we are right now.

    5. I don't think it was an out reach of power because it really helped out our country and establishing a road system.

  7. Once America was done fighting Britain in the war of 1812 they went back to fighting the barbary pirates who would take their cargo and crew, hold them for ransom, and sell them into slavery. The second barbary war took about 2 weeks since every algerian ship was captured and the town was threatened to be destroyed if they didn't return all christians, American and European.

  8. The Americans were done fighting Britain, but not done fighting the pirates. It was Jackson's army that won the war. After the barbary war, they made a treaty which eventually led to the era of good feelings.

  9. The banks stabilized the economy. Madison wanted a protective tariff and internal improvements. Battle of Tipacanoe was what led up to the war of 1812. When the war ended, it began the era of good feeling.

  10. In this video, I learned that American ships were in trouble because of Barbary Pirates causing trouble with their ships. In 1815, a treaty was signed to end the pirate shenanigans, and thus the Era of Good Feelings started. After the war of 1812, the Federalist party completely vanished. Many believed the national bank was unconstitutional.

  11. The national bank was unconstitutional. The war of 1812 came. The american system came with protective tariff with that only lasting three years. The end of the war of 1812 led to a great thing that helped out our country.

  12. James Madison tried to get rid of Hamilton's national bank. But as soon as the War of 1812 started up, then he created the 2nd national bank. Was the first national bank really all that bad or was Madison only trying to provoke Hamilton?

  15. When America and Britain were done fighting in 1812 the Americans went back to fighting the barbary pirates. The pirates would take American cargo, crew, and hold them for ransom. Native American were pushed even further west. Madison allowed the army to displace tribes. Madison signed a bill for a second national bank.

    1. Was the first national bank all that bad? Why get rid of it and then bring a second one in.

  16. Barbary Pirates held our ships ransom because we lacked defense. The nation was deeply divided the United States. The american system had protective tariffs along with internal improvements such as highways. The army attacked and killed run away slaves from a fort in florida that was later destroyed by the army

  17. What was the problem with the first national bank. They got rid of the first one but still we came up with another one is there really that much of a difference between the two?

    1. I don't believe so but they got rid of the first one because many people thought the bank to be unconstitutional.

    2. Why bring the second one in then?

  18. The end of the war of 1812 led to the era of good feelings. Madison approved a protective tariff. Canals and roads were created, which actually angered the Americans.

  19. Americans were done fighting Britain, and then turned their focus on Barbary pirates, and after a short 2 week war they signed a treaty, and had no more problems. Madison also found the first national bank to be unconstitutional, so didn't sign it again when it expired. After a while he realized we did indeed need a national bank so then he created the second national bank.

  20. Why would the pirates try to fight a larger nation?

    1. They might have believed that since the nation was vulnerable, as we were in the War of 1812, they would have a chance to defeat our ships.

  21. The ending to the War of 1812 led to the Era of Good Feelings, a time of peace. The Federalist Party was vanished, some of President Madison's economic policies made a division within Democratic-Republicans. Madison let the National Bank charter expire. The War of 1812 proved its value, and Madison started the Second National Bank. Next was Henry Clay's American System. Madison approved a protective tariff and internal improvements such as roads and canals. Despite protecting Native American land earlier, Madison allowed the army to displace Midwestern tribes. The army also attacked and killed runaway slaves who were occupying a British fortress in Florida.

  22. The ending of the war of 1812 led to the era of good feelings, relative stability, prosperity and peace. President James Madison economic policies revealed a division within Democratic-Republicans. Also the Federalist Party was gone. This party had always opposed Hamilton's National Bank and Madison let its charter expire.

  23. The end of the War of 1812 led to the Era of Good Feelings. The Federalist Party didn't exist anymore because of the war, but some of Madison's economic policies differed within the Democratic Republicans. They had always opposed Hamilton's National Bank, and Madison let the charter expire. Madison got his way by establishing the Second National Bank.

  24. It's sort of ironic that James Madison, who allowed the Bank's 20-year charter to expire during his first term and refused to sign a bill that reauthorized it, later created the second National Bank.

  25. In this video I learned that the end of the War of 1812 led to the Era of Good Feelings, a time in American History in which Americans were mostly at peace. I also learned that President Madison did not always agree with the Democratic Republicans. This group opposed Hamilton's idea of a National Bank. Madison got back by creating the Second National Bank and forcing northwestern Indian tribes off their land.

  26. I also think the pirates were a little in over their heads. Going up a nation that had just beat Great Britain. They must've been just a bunch of dumb pirates trying to make a buck. It didn't last long though because when we stood up to them it didn't take much and they were ready to negotiate a treaty.

  27. Henry Clay's American System, supported by Madison, included protective tariffs which were to increase the purchase of domestic goods, and internal improvements which were roads and canals. After fighting the British, Americans fought a war against the Barbary Pirates that lasted only 2 weeks.

  28. After the war of 1812, Madison let a Second National Bank pass. I was endorsed by Henry Clay's American System. This led to Madison approving a protective tariff and improving roads and canals. Madison was kind and protected Native American lands but soon after he sent an army to disrupt the Midwestern tribes. Also the army went to Florida and attacked and killed any runaway slaves that were hiding in a British fortress

  29. Although the Americans were done fighting the British, the pirates were still a problem, so, they signed a treaty which pretty much stopped that problem. The Era of Good Feelings was basically about the Americans being at peace and not really having much trouble with anyone. Madison also let the first national bank expire, but then created the second national bank. Oh yeah, RIP Federalist Party.

  30. In this time, the Americans thought they had won the war of 1812. Jackson led a successful battle down even though the treaty had already been signed because they didn't know about it.
    The Federalist Party died.
After the war, barbary ships began stealing from American ships again. This lead to greater conflicts. They eventually signed a treaty that stopped this from happening again. Madison let the national bank expire. Then when the War of 1812 came, he had to make up another national bank. Roads and canals became important. Madison had to deal with Indians, and ended up pushing them out of their land.

  31. Since when was there a British fort in Florida? Did they manage to get a part of it from Spain? Or was that a section of Florida that didn't belong to Spain?
